Watford rail works to create chaos for Dacorum commuters in 2014

An £81 million series of improvement works to one of the UK’s most intensively used sections of train track will mean disruption for railway commuters throughout Dacorum next year.

The upgrade to the West Coast Mainline at Watford will mean train services to and from London will be suspended completely for 16 days in August 2014, with further closures scheduled for next Christmas and early 2015.

The plans are thought to be less disruptive than weekend closures, of which there would need to be 54 to get the work done. Services from London Midland train stations including Tring down to Kings Langley would feel the effects.

Managing director of London Midland Patrick Verwer said: “This is a much needed investment and a series of closures is the quickest way of bringing the benefits of this major upgrade to our passengers. We will of course provide more detailed information for London Midland passengers throughout the changes.”
