A trial date will soon be set for the man accused of murdering a 66-year-old have-a-go hero during a suspected robbery at his paedophile neighbour’s home.

Little Gaddesden grandfather-of-two Graham Buck ran to the aid of his 87-year-old Nettleden Road neighbour Francis Cory-Wright when he heard him crying out for help last month.

But he was left with fatal stab wounds and a man was seen fleeing the area with a bundle of £50 and £20 notes.

After a nationwide manhunt for suspect Ian McLoughlin, police charged the 55-year-old with Mr Buck’s murder, and with robbery and possession of cannabis.

St Albans Crown Court has now referred his case to London’s Old Bailey, which deals with major crimes from in and around the Greater London area.

Mr McLoughlin will appear at the Old Bailey on Friday, September 6, when a date will be set for his trial.
