Berkhamsted garage’s offer: ‘Borrow one of our bicycles while you fix your car’

A Berkhamsted garage has launched a bicycle-loaning scheme, so that its customers can cycle into town while they are waiting for their vehicle to be fixed.

DeLisle Car Servicing and Repairs moved from the town’s High Street to the Northbridge Road Industrial Estate at the end of August and will host an open morning tomorrow.

Everyone is welcome to visit for a drink and a chat.

The company, which has been in Berkhamsted for more than 30 years, will also introduce a paperless invoicing system with text alerts for customers who prefer to be reminded of future appointments in this way.

Owner and keen cyclist James DeLisle said: “I really want to change the image of the ‘back street garage’ and maybe these small initiatives could make other garages follow suit.”

Mr DeLisle says the firm’s new premises will offer customers easy cycling access into town along the flat Grand Union Canal towpath.

He said: “Feedback from customers made me think about how to turn a potentially stressful or boring situation into a bit of fun for the family.

“Rather than sit and wait or take a courtesy car whilst the repairs are being done, we’ve bought a few bikes for customers to use while they wait.”
