A developer is one step closer to building 48 new retirement homes in Berkhamsted High Street after planners supported the scheme at a meeting last night.
The flats will replace a dry cleaners, children’s nursery, car servicing workshop, car wash and house whose owners have agreed to sell their properties to developer Churchill Retirement Living.
Dacorum Borough Council’s development control committee last night ruled that planning permission for the development should be granted, subject to the relevant legal and admin agreements being completed.
Director of Churchill Retirement Living Andrew Burgess said: “This is our first development in Berkhamsted as well as our eighth approval in England in this financial year.
“The construction will get under way shortly with first occupations anticipated in early 2015.”
The one and two-bedroom flats will have communal areas and 17 parking spaces and will be offered exclusively to the over-60s.
