The family of a nine-year-old girl who remains in a coma after being hit by a car last week are trying to get her favourite band to visit her in hospital.
JLS fan Abaigh O’Gallagher was playing football in Lime Walk park in Bennetts End shortly before the accident on Thursday afternoon. She had walked a friend home for tea and was going back to the park across Leys Road when the accident happened.
The Lime Walk School pupil was excited after just getting the new Chelsea kit, which paramedics had to cut off her body so they could treat her injuries.
Her family are appealing for donations to replace the kit, said friend Julian Gunn.
He is trying to get boy band JLS to visit the youngster at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where she is critically ill. He also hopes to get her a backstage pass to their concert in December.
Julian said: “Her dad is my best friend and was best man at my wedding. Abaigh was at our house every day. It is a tragic incident.
“Her dad is not talking to anyone. He’s a complete mess at the moment.”
Julian said that doctors tried to bring Abaigh, who lives with her family in Leys Road, out of her coma on Sunday, but it did not go to plan.
He said: “She is the most bubbly girl ever, full of life and everybody’s friend. She is the life and soul of every party.
“Once you meet Abaigh, you never forget Abaigh. She loves volcanoes, JLS and Chelsea.”
Abaigh has a teenage sister called Leanne and is the daughter of Patrick and Cassie, who are both said to be distraught.
Julian said: “She’s one of the most hyperactive girls you could ever see, so to see her now in the state she’s in is just terrible.”
