A crackdown on crime at railway stations in Herts, north London and Beds has seen figures decrease.
Hemel Hempstead’s railway station has seen a cut in crime and anti-social behaviour, down to 24 incidents for the period September 2012 to August 2013 compared with 35 the previous year.
Incidents at neighbouring stations Kings Langley and Apsley are both down from eight to six, while crime and anti-social behaviour at Berkhamsted has also reduced, from 19 last year to 12 in the run-up to August this year.
Tring station has seen the biggest decrease, with 16 fewer incidents reported this year. Figures have fallen from from 31 to just 14.
British Transport Police is teams are also embarking on Operation Wiggins, a prevention campaign to reduce thefts of bikes from railway stations.
Officers are urging cyclists to register their bikes at www.bikeregister.com and mark frames with their postcode in two separate locations, one of which should be hidden.
The BTP also suggests taking a photo of your bike and recording your frame number and key details, which will help to recover the bike if stolen. Officers will be holding security marking surgeries at stations across the country. Follow @btp_uk on Twitter for details and dates.
