A solicitor whose business is based in Hemel Hempstead has made the shortlist for a prestigious law award.
Kerry Underwood, who owns law firm Underwoods in Marlowes, is up against seven other nominees to win the title of Law Society Gazette Legal Personality of the Year.
According to the Law Society, shortlisted entries are those who are breaking new ground, showing innovation and outstanding representatives of the legal profession.
Kerry, who has lived in Bovingdon for 25 years, said: “I’m very pleased. It’s great that the hard work of my staff at the firm is being recognised, and I think it’s a good thing from the town’s point of view, too.
“Some people say that the only good lawyers are in London, but that’s just not the case. Smaller firms are just as good.”
Asked how he will celebrate if he is victorious, the 52-year-old said: “I haven’t a clue. I will be doubly pleased if I do win.”
The winner will be announced at a gala awards dinner in London on October 22.
President of the Law Society Nicholas Fluck said: “The standards this year have been exceptionally high, and I know the judges had a mammoth task on their hands in choosing who to shortlist.
“It is heartening to see the legal sector showing no signs of complacency during economic turbulence and a changing legal landscape. The hardest part will be choosing the winners, for they are all, without exception, excellent indeed.”
