Police are tracing a man they would like to speak to in connection with a series of fuel theft offences in Herts.
In total, seven incidents – which all involved a silver Peugeot driving into service stations before being filled up with fuel and driving away – have been reported between March 2012 and April this year.
The Shell service station in Warners End Road, Hemel Hempstead was targeted on November 9 last year.
Garages in South Mimms, Elstree and Potters Bar also fell victim to the bilking offences.
On each occasion the car was believed to be using stolen registration plates to avoid easy detection.
Pictures released by police depict a white man wearing dark clothing and a baseball cap.
Sally Johnson, from the local crime unit in Borehamwood, said: “We have released the images of this person because we believe he can help us with our investigation.
“We would like to identify him as soon as possible as he may have witnessed something or have other vital information. If you recognise him please get in touch as soon as possible.”
Anyone with information about the incident should call police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference J1/12/3275, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
