Animal welfare charity the RSPCA has recognised two Dacorum Borough Council departments for ensuring high animal welfare standards in the services they provide.

The council’s dog warden team was awarded a silver in the charity’s Community Animal Welfare Footprints scheme, for the high benchmarks it has set in caring for and dealing with stray dogs in the borough.

Dacorum’s housing department was given the highest accolade of all with a gold footprint for making extra effort and going beyond the basic service requirements for animal welfare in its services.

Borough dog warden Sarah Lewis said: “We work hard to keep high standards of animal welfare in Dacorum and it is great that our achievements are being recognised by the RSPCA.”

The awards attracted entries from across England and Wales, with more than 60 local authorities and housing providers reaching top standards.

The RSPCA’s Lenny Rolles said: “It is fantastic to see so many organisations achieving awards and working hard to improve standards of animal welfare despite the tough economic climate.”
