Take a leaf out of Orwell’s book and enrol on Berkhamsted literature course

For those who have always wanted to delve deeper into the 1930s literary scene, then a 10-week course at the Berkhamsted and Tring branch of the Workers’ Education Association could be just the thing to broaden your horizons.

Starting on Monday at the Friends’ Meeting House on Berkhamsted High Street, The 1930s: A Literary Portrait will see tutor Michael King guide students through novels including George Orwell’s Coming Up For Air and Christopher Isherwood’s Goodbye To Berlin.

The course aims to provide an understanding and appreciation of various writings from the decade, inlcuding poetry, short stories and plays.

The course costs £70 and is on every Monday between 10.30am and 12.30pm. Students will need their own copies of the novels on the reading list.
