Fears have been raised about the impact lorries will have on householders under plans to set up a vehicle depot on the outskirts of Tring.
Councillor Nick Hollinghurst raised the concerns on behalf of people living in Tringford Road during a meeting of Dacorum Borough Council’s Full Council last night.
The site is the former home of Tring’s award winning waste recycling centre, which was closed by Herts County Council under cutbacks back in 2008.
Now the borough council has submitted a change of use application to create a waste vehicle depot there, which would serve their waste and clean, safe and green teams.
But Mr Hollinghurst said traffic lights would need to be installed at a single track humpback bridge close to the proposed base and homes.
“I am concerned that we are going to have a large number of heavy good vehicles going across the bridge,” he said.
“There are a number of residents who are already disturbed by cars tooting because they can’t see across the bridge.”
Leader of the council, Councillor Andrew Williams - speaking on behalf of Councillor Julie Laws, who oversees environmental services and sustainability, but could not attend the meeting - said: “Our intended use is significantly less in terms of vehicles generated when compared to the previous use of the site.”
He said traffic lights would be given consideration if it was requested by experts at Herts Highways.
The change of use planning application is due to be considered by the borough council’s Development Control Committee tonight.
