A CANAL-SIDE watering hole has been crowned the best out of 220 pubs within a real ale group’s remit.
The Rising Sun, off George Street in Berkhamsted, has been named pub of the year and cider pub of the year by Mid Chilterns Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
Chairman Dave Badminton said: “It is a very friendly and popular pub, and very picturesque as it’s right beside a canal lock.
“Landlords Nigel and Mark Granger have turned it around since they took it over a few years ago.
“It used to be a very local pub, but now quite a lot of people go there.”
CAMRA will present the pub landlords with the two awards on Friday at 6.30pm.
Dave said the pub usually has 15 to 20 different beers on offer and up to 15 different ciders on tap.
Plus there are offers of up to 20p off for members of CAMRA, he said.
A real ale festival at the pub runs from Friday until Sunday.
