DESPITE the recent spell of hot weather, drivers are now being urged to take extra care on the roads as icy conditions are forecast.
Herts county Council has sent out warnings about the unusual icy conditions expected this month, which could include some sleet or snow.
The council’s transport management assistant director Rob Smith said earlier this week: “Overnight temperatures are expected to drop below zero from Tuesday night so we will continue to salt all the main routes around the county.
“Please take care if you’re out and about in the next few days. If you are driving, leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front, steer and brake very gently and reduce your overall speed.
“Pedestrians are also asked to take a great deal of care on pavements and when crossing the road.”
Information and tips can be found on the council’s website at www.hertsdirect.org/salting, this includes details of which roads the council salts and details of when salting runs are taking place.
