A DEDICATED fundraiser tackling an incredible long-distance challenge from Portugal to London has almost reached his 80th marathon.

Matthew Loddy, of Watford Road, Kings Langley, aims to run 100 marathons in 100 days in memory of work colleague Phil Latham.

The pair had worked at Framework Scaffolding Contractors in Northbridge Road, Berkhamsted, where Matthew is managing director.

Phil, 36, died from cancer in 2010, just five months after he and Matthew had planned a fundraising walk from Lagos in Portugal to London for cancer charities.

The dad-of-two had lived Latimer Close, Hemel Hempstead, and went to Astley Cooper School, where he met his wife Karen.

After Phil died, Matthew vowed to run the distance from Lagos to London, setting off on the first leg on Saturday, January 14.

He has now reached day 82 and will today be running his 80th marathon.
