A STEAM train chugged through a town centre station on Saturday – but left its passengers behind.
Due to a last-minute mishap, the Cathedrals Express 70000 Britannia could not stop in Berkhamsted.
But people who had booked to board it there were transferred to Milton Keynes for the return journey to Chester, which began in London Euston at 7.40am.
They were greeted by scores of people waving and taking photos of the train as it headed to the northern city to arrive there at 1pm.
Marcus Robertson, chairman of Cathedrals Express operators Steam Dreams, said: “People may have been disappointed initially, but by the end of the day they will have had a good time.”
