STAFF at an Adeyfield barber shop have shown they are a cut above the rest with a fundraising and awareness day in aid of The Prostate Cancer Charity.

Michael’s Barber Shop in Longlands chose the charity in support of one of its team members, Lucy Frost’s, brother’s fundraising efforts. Her brother Simon McGrath, a former Cavendish School pupil, is trekking up North Africa’s highest mountain - Mount Toubkal - next month in aid of the charity.

Simon and Lucy’s dad John was diagnosed with prostate cancer but thankfully is responding well to treatment.

The event at the barber shop on Saturday looks set to have raised more than £250 for the charity mountain trek through a raffle, donations, and coffee and cake sale, while also raising awareness of the disease, which kills one man every hour.

Simon said: “The event was a great success, not just from a fundraising perspective but also highlighting to a male audience just what prostate cancer is. The barber shop’s owner Sharon Ashton and her team worked really hard to make the event a success – they did a fantastic job and we’re really grateful to all involved including the local businesses that donated raffle prizes.”
