THE steam train that passed through a town centre station a week-and-a-half ago is due to stop there for the first time on Saturday, September 22.

The Cathedrals Express train, hauled by the 6201 Princess Elizabeth locomotive, will stop at Berkhamsted Train Station at 8.40am.

It was named after Queen Elizabeth II when she was just seven years old.

Passengers can get off at Cheltenham or Worcester, or go along the historic 16-mile Severn Valley Railway – featured in Don Sharp’s 1978 film, The 39 Steps.

The train will arrive at the three destinations at about midday and will have returned to Berkhamsted by about 9.30pm.

Graeme Bunker, chief executive of The Cathedrals Express, said: “It is always really exciting to bring a steam train to a new route.

“As a former Berkhamsted resident, I was very passionate about ensuring this new stopping point.

“The interest and enthusiasm from passengers to experience the sights, sounds and smells of a steam train as it thunders through the countryside at speeds of up to 75mph is wonderful.”

Ticket prices for the trip range from £85 to £225. To book, call The Cathedrals Express on 01483 209888 or visit www.CathedralsExpress.co.uk
