Fears raised over ‘potential privatisation’ of police force

A POLICE union has expressed fears about ‘potential privatisation’ of the Herts force.

Herts Police Unison says moves are taking place to outsource back office support services but it fears areas like the custody service and the control room could follow.

The union is concerned top cops ‘could lose operational control’ as deals are done with other forces already working with private security firm G4S.

Chairman Steph Raddings has called for proper public consultation.

She said: “Privatising organisational support may protect the numbers of frontline officers but will it protect their efficiency and the amount of time they can actually be frontline?”

“We are extremely concerned that the communities of Herts have not been consulted and are unaware of the implications of this potential privatisation on Herts Constabulary services.”
