No influx of dogs this Christmas but wait until Easter

A GOOD cause that takes in homeless dogs did not receive its usual influx of festive four legged friends.

But the Chiterns Dog Rescue Society is bracing itself for abandoned Christmas puppies in a few months time.

The charity often sees people off-loading dogs they have purchased when the novelty of a new pet has worn off.

Sara Muncke from the society said: “We always see a surge at Easter time when Christmas puppies become more demanding.”

The rescue centre in Chivery, near Tring, is currently full with 26 dogs in kennels and several others staying with foster families.

Among them is a 14 year old collie dog which was handed over on Christmas eve after her owner suddenly died.

“She is a dog that can go forward and have a happy retirement with someone else,” said Sara.
