A forensic scientist has told a murder trial jury how he examined the heavily blood-stained body of a mother-of-two in her bedroom.
The prosecution at St Albans Crown court allege Bernadeta Jakubszyk was stabbed by her husband Miroslav Wosik, who had moved out of the family home in The Wye, Grovehill following marital difficulties.
The 42-year-old is then alleged to have knifed himself in the stomach.
Daniel Beaumont told the jury: “Bernadeta was on her back on the floor. Her head was close to the door and her feet were towards the wardrobe.
“Her upper chest, arms and hair were all heavily blood-stained.
“On the central part of the bed there was a heavy pool of blood – a sign of heavy bleeding for some time. Bedding and other items on the bed were heavily blood stained.”
The knife, which was found under the bed, was in a pool of blood, he said.
Miroslav Wosik pleads not guilty to murdering his 30-year-old wife in the early hours of May 28 last year.
Bernadeta died from two deep stab wounds which had punctured her right lung. She bore cuts to her hands and forearms indicating she had put up a fight to try and ward off the blows, and had been stabbed once in the head.
Earlier the jury heard how Wosik’s son from a previous relationship, Daniel, ran up the stairs to find his stepmother dead on her bed and his father sitting beside her.
The couple’s two daughters, aged eight and six, were asleep in the house at the time.
The court heard how the couple had been together for eight years, having first met while working in Italy. They moved to England in search of a better life, but the marriage got into difficulties.
The defendant had told his son she had a boyfriend and was always going out with friends.
The case continues.
