A pharmacy is urging smokers to hand over their cigarettes and tobacco and in return a donation will be made to Cancer UK.

Apsley’s MedicX Pharmacy is hosting tobacco amnesty on Friday to mark World No Tobacco Day and wants people to take the opportunity to make a healthy life change.

Manager Herpreet Sharma said: “We work closely with many patients through our smoking cessation services to help people develop effective strategies to stop smoking.

“We thought holding a tobacco amnesty would be an excellent incentive to those who want to quit – not only will it deliver enormous benefits to the patient but also, thanks to support from MedicX Pharmacy, benefit Cancer UK.”

The pharmacy in London Road has pledged to match the value of the materials handed in with a donation to the good cause.

World No Tobacco Day is organised by the World Health Organisation to highlight the risks associated with tobacco use, which kills nearly six million people each year.

Specially trained advisers are on hand at MedicX to offer one-to-one help and advice to smokers.
