A driver arrested on suspicion of drink-driving when his Ford Mondeo hit a parked car and flipped onto its roof was later de-arrested by officers.
The accident, which happened on Thursday, June 6 in Abbots Langley High Street, has been put down to mechanical failure by driver Daniel Hackett.
He said: “It was a very old car. The wish bone snapped off. The wheel was 50 yards up the road.”
The 37 year old, of Kings Langley, does admit fleeing from the scene of the accident but puts that down to shock. “I was in shock and had quite seriously damaged my arm,” he said.
Daniel needed 25 stitches to repair his right arm and another four stitches to a cut on his head.
He insists he had not been drinking on the day and says a breath test was negative. He is now awaiting the results of a blood test conducted at the hospital.
