Just four cases of the contagious viral illness measles were reported in Herts during June, but figures for the first half of 2013 show a rise from the previous year.

In total, just five reports for the Herts and South Midlands area of England, covering Beds, Northants and Milton Keynes, were received in June – a decrease of two from May.

However, totals from January to June reveal 15 cases in Herts, compared to just six for the period in 2012.

A catch-up scheme aims to prevent measles outbreaks by giving MMR to as many unvaccinated and partially vaccinated 10 to 16 -year -olds as possible.
