The family of a soldier who was killed in Afghanistan are organising a third annual anniversary charity football tournament in his honour.
Cpl Dave Barnsdale, 24, of 33 Engineer Regiment (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) was killed on October 19, 2010 while clearing a patrol area in Helmand province.
Two teams from Tring and two from Dave’s former squadrons, the Royal Engineers 26 and 61 Squadrons, will be battling it out for the Dave Barnsdale Trophy.
Last year the trophy was won by 61 Squadron so the local teams will be eager to bring the trophy back to Tring.
The tournament will take place on Sunday, October 6 at Tring Corinthians Football Club, which is based in Icknield Way, Tring. Kick-off is at 11.30am.
There will be a bar, barbecue, cake stall and a raffle, plus a bouncy castle and face painting for children. All money raised will be donated to ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.
Dave’s parents Steve and Wendy said: “The Barnsdale Family would like to take the opportunity to once again thank the people of Tring for their continued support.”
