Hemel MP speaks out over fuel strike fears

THE MP for Hemel Hempstead has spoken out over fears of a fuel strike and has said there is no evidence of a panic in the town.

Minister for Roads Mike Penning has said that despite an initial rush there is no overall panic, and that he has visited various pumps in the town and that they have been operating normally.

He said: “My message to drivers is that if you top up more when you’re at the pumps then you’ll be in a much better position if a strike comes.

“But the real question is: why would they strike? Most drivers earn around £45,000-a-year, which I think most people would be agree is a decent salary.

“Regarding health and safety, the union UNITE has not been to my door about this issue, and the Health and Safety Executive is happy with the situation.”
